On Tuesday, June 20, West Virginia will celebrate her 154th birthday. Museums and historic sites in north-central West Virginia invite you to “Celebrate West Virginia” with us!
“Celebrate West Virginia” is a weekend-long celebration of West Virginia Day! A kickoff celebration, held Thursday June 22 from 4-7 PM at Spark! Imagination and Science Center, will feature live music and food. Representatives from museums and historic sites in the community will present family-friendly activities and information about their organization.
Throughout the weekend, area museums and historic sites will have special, family-friendly events (all of which will be free).

- West Virginia Botanic Garden; Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, June 24, 10AM-4PM; Young Birders Walk (must register in advance) on Sunday, June 25, 10AM
- WVU Library/WVRHC; Scavenger hunt and WVU craft on Saturday, June 24, 10AM-4PM
- Arthurdale Heritage; Learn about play in the 1930s and visit with goats on Saturday, June 24, 11AM-3PM and Sunday, June 25, 1-5PM
- Watts Museum; Shapes and patterns in glassmaking on Saturday, June 24, 1-4PM
- Art Museum of WVU; Blanche Lazzell activity on Saturday, June 24, 1-4PM
- Easton Roller Mill; Tours of historic grist mill on Sunday, June 25, 2-5PM
Pick up a passport at the kickoff event (or at any participating location) and get it stamped when you participate in a “Celebrate West Virginia” event. Participate in three and be eligible to win a prize! Prizes include tickets to a West Virginia Black Bear baseball game, jump passes for Launchpad Trampoline Park, a birthday party at the WVU Student Rec Center, and more! The back page of passports must be turned in at a participating location by July 2 to be eligible for prizes.
Celebrate West Virginia is organized by Mountaineer Country Museums, whose mission is to support, promote, and develop local historic sites and museums, and to increase community awareness of their value.
